Do you want to make a difference in the lives of young people?
Are you based in Newcastle?
We are dedicated to enabling young people to have a voice. Our projects provide young people the opportunity to develop new skills and build confidence and we do this through the use of multi-media.
We are currently recruiting volunteers in Newcastle to work with our fantastic project officers.
“As a journalist, I first became interested in volunteering for Headliners because it offered a way to give back to London’s young people while using the skills I’d already built up throughout my career. However, I’ve come to realise the charity offers so much more than that through the work that it does.
It uses journalism as an outlet to help some of the most vulnerable young people in our city find their own voice, and gives them a way to express themselves. Being a migrant to a place as big and bustling as London can be scary – something I know first hand – but for asylum seekers who made their way here in terrifying conditions, without even their parents or families to take care of them once they arrived, it must be traumatic, but I’ve seen Headliners staff work with these young people, embracing their sense of wonder, and giving them confidence in themselves, and their abilities.
Headliners also do valuable work in the environmental space – which is one that means a lot to me in particular – through its Green Champions project. They encourage London’s young people to not only embrace what they love about the environment, but also to take control of what they can do to protect it – in a time when climate news can be so overwhelming and frightening for those who sometimes feel powerless.”
