Empowering Young Voices

A creative media project for young people aged 13–19 (or up to 25 with SEND) living in Newcastle North.

Are you aged 13–19 and living in Kenton, Fawdon, Gosforth or the surrounding areas of Newcastle North? Want to explore your thoughts and experiences around mental health and wellbeing while learning exciting new media skills?

Empowering Young Voices is a free, 12-week creative project where you’ll learn how to express yourself through media and journalism, build confidence, and gain a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification.

What you’ll get involved in:

  • Learn media skills such as photography, podcasting, filmmaking or news reporting
  • Share your voice on topics that matter to you such as mental health, resilience and identity
  • Build confidence and learn how to manage stress and wellbeing
  • Gain a Level 1 OCN Qualification in media or journalism
  • Take part in a final exhibition to showcase your work and celebrate your achievements

When and where?

The Haven, Kenton, Halewood Avenue, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 3RX starting Monday 8th September 2025.

Choose the group that suits you best:

  • Afternoon Group: Mondays, 1:00pm – 3:00pm – Weekly
  • Evening Group: Mondays, 4:00pm – 6:00pm – Weekly

Who is it for?

Young people aged 13–19, or up to 25 if you have SEND, who live in the Newcastle North locality (Castle, Dene & South Gosforth, Fawdon & West Gosforth, Gosforth, Kenton, Manor Park, North Jesmond, Parklands).
