NE ROOTS – Episode One: The Last Miner

NE Roots Podcast – Episode One: The Last Miner

In this first episode of the NE Roots Project podcast, young people from Headliners (UK) and The Activity Den uncover the living industrial heritage of Tanfield Lea and Stanley in County Durham.

The Last Miner was created by young people who explored local history through interviews with a former miner and conversations with community members, capturing real voices and stories of the area’s mining past.

Have a listen:

Jayden, a young person who participated in the NE Roots Project said ‘We met Martin, a local resident and a retired miner, who started working down the pit when he was just 15. Listening to him talk about the conditions he worked in was intense. He shared what life was really like underground and how the miners’ strikes didn’t just affect him at work but changed everything for his family too.’

This was created by young people as part of the Headliners NE Roots Project This project would not be possible without the kind support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the players of the National Lottery.
